Probably the oldest real estate office in Berks County, Binkley Real Estate was started back in the 1930’s by A. G. Binkley, Sr. A graduate of Wharton School of Business, Mr. Binkley Sr. had several businesses over the years. He ran a boating business, was a buyer and seller of rare coins and stamps, and had other interests as well, but his mainstay was always real estate.
Back then, there were only a handful of offices operating in the Reading area. Real estate contracts were written on one side of a legal sized piece of paper, and the contract didn’t even take up the whole page!
In 1960, A. G. Binkley, Jr. started in real estate and was already a real estate broker by 1964. The early- and mid-1970’s were very good to the Binkley office, and we grew to be one of the larger offices in Berks County with two locations. As a listing tool, Mr. Binkley, Jr. would often tell sellers, “If you want a referral about our company, ask your home – we’ve probably sold it before!”
It was A. G. Binkley, Jr. who decided to make a niche for the office by expanding to property management in addition to sales. The Binkley office quickly became the undisputed authority in rental property management in Berks County and still is today, handling more properties than any other real estate brokerage in the county.
In 1985, the third generation of Binkleys went into the real estate business. Craig Binkley initially started working at the office to help out his dad. It was only supposed to be a temporary job…a few weeks at most…funny how things happen! By the end of the first year, he had obtained his real estate license and was off and running. 1986 was a banner year for Craig with many nice listings and sales, and any thoughts of doing something else had been left by the wayside. Thirty years later with hundreds of sales and literally thousands of leased properties under his belt, Craig continues to run the business and took over for his father in 1999, when A. G. Binkley, Jr. retired.
Craig grew up in Berks County and attended both Exeter and Mt. Penn schools, graduating from Mt. Penn in 1980. From the time he was 15, there was no doubt as to what he wanted to do – he was Air Force bound! Within days of turning 18, he enlisted. Craig served in Texas and Washington, and spent the last two years of his enlistment in Okinawa, Japan. Craig found the Air Force exhilarating, working as a crew member on board the RC-135’s.
Craig came home at the end of 1984. The Air Force was a great experience, but he couldn’t get a certain hometown girl out of his mind. He solved that in 1987 when she said “yes.” A few years later a son was born, soon to be followed by a daughter.
Today, the kids are all grown up and doing quite well. Craig loves spending time outdoors. He’s an avid golfer but his favorite past time is just being with his family.

“My interest in real estate began in my own search for a home. I understand all the frustrations that can go along with it, but in the end, the process can be fun and rewarding. I enjoy working in a family-friendly atmosphere and helping people in their search to find a place to call home.”
